>>44565366Depends, how far from standard do you want to stray to stray? The reason the usual 5 man rain core of swampert/pelipper/ashnigger/ferro/torn builds itself is because of all the roles everything fills and synergy they have together.
One option is experimenting with sets and spreads while using the same mons like the example in this link.
https://www.smogon.com/forums/threads/spl-winning-azu-team-made-blunder-quit-mons-peaked-1-w-2170-pts.3649581/#post-8111349. (Some /vp/ anons deduced the actual spreads, if you ask me I can provide)
You could also technically make the team "nonstandard" just by filling the last slot with something oddball. People usually use some sort of stall or balance breaker in the last slot or magearna but you could try something else instead. But it would still be pretty standard overall.
You won't be able to get away with skipping on pelipper, but I think concessions could be made even though the team likely won't be as good.
If you want to try something with a faster feel, you can try cutting ferrothorn and defensive tornadus for a build like
https://www.smogon.com/forums/threads/ocean-man-a-rain-ho-team.3636280/. I don't really think his team is that great in modern day but the general idea of it is still probably workable. I'd probably still use torn in a fast team, just an offensive one.
If you were really wanna be innovative you could use a specs pelipper along with mega pert, but change the other 4 mons entirely and make the team not rain centric at all. Pelipper and mega pert still work together well against offense.
