The dumb level caps make it impossible to use pokemon you like, if you;re having trouble you just sort of use whatever is supposed to be good against the next boss instead of your bros because your bros will never beat them. Well, the original group did a better job then. Lil' Bro and Carlito are both total bullshit. Freddie wasn't that bad though. I quit shortly after having to re-do my whole team just to beat fucking Carlito and decided it's not fun anymore.

This is the trouble with trying to include memes in things that take time to develop, by the time it's finished, a decent amount of the memes will already have been dated. Fortunately, Clover does more than enough to stand on it's own merit as more than just a meme game.

Clover is basically an encapsulation of pre-wojakspam 4chan humor. The only super dated stuff I can think of are the Ebola references, Carlito stuff (seems like more of a Siivagunner insert than anything else), and sparse election references (Shadilay on OST).

Gave it a shot after skipping Sword and Shield, and it's really reminding me why I've enjoyed Pokemon all these years.
I think part of that is just the fact that not every single Pokemon is revealed beforehand. (Which has been an issue for the official games since at least Gen 6 I think? It's not easy avoiding all that shit either) There's both the feeling of surprise there, but also, for the first time in nearly a decade, I don't have a team planned ahead based on what I want to use, I just work with what I can find.
