Is there a good reason to have Ice types available early game aside from just variety's sake?

Not enough games have Ice types early, it is much needed because these Pokemon get so little in game use. You'll have it in it's base stage for 5 mins before you evolve it.

Ice, like Bug, is kind of a shitty type, so it makes sense you'd get your early game shitmons of shitty types early so you can catch nicer things and upgrade your team later. Late game shouldn't be full of shitmon, it should be full of strong or exotic stuff to tempt you way from your bros.

I would love early access to Ice, and appreciate that you can manage it now in Sword/Shield.

However, there are probably reasons that they don't typically put them on the early routes.
>The first routes tend to have Pokemon that evolve quickly, which isn't normal of Ice type Pokemon.
>Ice as an offensive type tends to wreck a lot of the common Pokemon that they introduce within the first few badges, including the region's basic bird, grass types, and a lot of what lives in caves.
>The weaknesses of Ice Pokemon aren't usually available that early to be used to keep you in check, unless your rival has the Fire type starter. Rock Pokemon can put up a fight, but that still requires them to outspeed you.

I hate the fact that ice is the rarest type. Water is one of the most common, because the world is covered mostly in water. Ice is just frozen water, and large parts of the world are frozen/cold.
Fairy, dragon, and ghost, types which would actually make sense to be rare, all have more pokemon than ice.

Consider that many of the regions we've been to aren't especially cold. Ice types that we find tend to be living in the mountains, because those places of high elevation get cold enough to support them.

That being said, we probably should have seen more Ice Pokemon in Sinnoh, though at least they had an outdoors snowstorm area, which was pretty neat.

Yes, but consider that there are many cold things in the world that don't depend on a cold region. There's an ice cream cone line, now how about an ice cream sandwich? How about a popsicle? etc.

It's "bear" and "tick" because his icicle beard is meant to evoke the biting mouthpart of a tick.
