Both are shit honestly, most pokemon should probably be around the same pace and start running after a couple seconds of you taking off. That way they aren't up your ass but they also ain't too slow to catch up

Just hide their legs underwater and have the trainer hugging the pokemon. It's just a matter of positioning the trainer's arms really. Still harder than the featureless blob, but not that much. Especially given that swsh shipped with 400 something pokemon

"Hugging the Pokemon" would recquire different hugging animations for a good number of them, considering their different sizes and widths and more.

At the end of the day, any option you go with is sillier and more abstract than just letting you deploy acessories for your bike.
