GO had a great premise that failed to deliver at first, but was such a novel concept that it was able to be kept alive from that alone.
Masters also has a great premise, and would have been a good normie-friendly introduction into the more nuanced areas of the Pokemon canon, like all of the fanservice with the protags. However, the gameplay was relatively neither novel nor interesting.
If they had made Masters a full-on adventure game where you can travel with your gacha companions it might have blown up. But instead, despite pouring so much soul into every other aspect, they decided to go with the most bland and boring battle/gameplay style possible. Masters plays out like the visual novel parts of Fire Emblem but without any of the strategy. It just sucks and I want to love it so bad.

I don't think normalfags were ever going to care about Masters. First because the reason GO is so popular is because you play it outside and can play it in groups, second because most people wouldn't recognize any of the characters except like Brock and Misty.

The human cast has potential, but you never really get a deeper glimpse of what their lives are or who they are, just the surface level ideas.
Ironically the games that handled the cast's characterization the best (by no means is it "great" outside of Pokemon standards though, HGSS with its phone calls and gym leaders doing things outside at certain times) was seen as inconvenient as you have to find obtuse ways to interact with the latter, and the former tended to interrupt the flow of gameplay with constant calls.

Go is easier to run on phones. My hardware was perfectly capable of running Masters but for some reason since the OS wasn't compatible, I could never install or run it. I think this happened for a lot of people.

Masters devs felt they had no reason to support a platform due to die in 2 years since they're a new game
While Go exists since 4-5 years and has a backlog of 32bit users
It's not a performance issue at all actually, since relatively decent 32bits from three years ago meet the requirements (2GB+ ram, Android 5.0), and are just locked out by google's deprecation of 32bit

It has go to do with EX Challenges (relatively difficult battles)
Then there's the new rarity they are adding in ~5 days, it's called "6* EX" and just provides a pathetic boost and a pallette recolor for the trainer, before that you only had 1* to 5* rarities
But as for why they used EX for EX challenges in the first place, I have no clue if it's because of the TCG or not
