This is where the series peaked and it's not up for debate. The writers put their heart and soul into this game.

As someone who has played the games, I can say that the PMD series was at its best with Time/Darkness/Sky. However, I believe the problem was that it peaked too early. Gates to Infinity wasn't good in comparison, Super Mystery Dungeon was certainly a fun ride, and DX was also fun, but I still find Sky to be my absolute favorite of the series.

Absolutely not. PMD games were written by chunsoft, which is really noticeable if you know their writing style (i.e. flashbacks every 10 seconds)

Really makes me sad that we'll never get anything like it again. Going back to the games they had some flaws but they absolutely had soul and I'll always appreciate them for that. I wish the newer mystery dungeons were immune to all the bullshit that plagues the new generation games but that's sadly not the case. All I have now are fan games. The art style, music, and over all design philosophy of the world they created in the first two games, specifically the second one was the absolute peak of Pokemon.

Gen 3’s teams were stupid, the story was shit, the characters were alright, and the poke designs were so-so. Gen 4 is absolutely the peak.

Whichever mystery Dungeon one had the final boss be the physical representation of depression was pretty good.

I liked how they kinda went off the path and didn't just insert legendary if the Day as a final boss.

I enjoyed the ued all of the Mystery dungeon games so far. I need a new one for Switch now.

I didn't even consider that there might be some fan ones.

You can tell the dialog got a lot better in Gates to Infinity, wonder if the merge with Spike helped with that or if they just got better at it.

Gates's dialogue was really bad for parroting itself though. Such as "Look at that, it's the Great Glacier!" "The Great Glacier?", though it did cut out the needless flashbacks Explorers had.
