It was beta testing for walking pokemon in HGSS. Somewhat memorable before HGSS came out and pretty forgettable after.
I can see remakes just dropping the area entirely.

It's a pretty sweet place for being the first game since pokemon yellow to have following pokemon.
Pretty mad I can't walk with the evolved forms of the "cute" pokemon besides my starters in platinum
