>>44596070Like I said, it comes down to director. Masuda has made blocky games for his entire directing career, so he thinks that's fine. Ohmori wants to try something new, and that always causes problems before they settle into the new normal. I'd also say look at how the rest of the staff compares.
>>44596088Generally agreed. In fact in the original response to my post, I said as much. But again, where they struggle most is where any smaller team would struggle, especially given they are in fact bad at their jobs. Even with hiring new staff specifically for 3D stuff, they still can't manage it well somehow. And I'd say it's theoretically a management problem, but I'm not entirely sure. Morimoto seems to be doing a competent job at actually making the battle stuff, but balancing isn't their strong suit. One of their oldest mappers, Snoralx himself, is now on the battle team, which says something about how this shit's been going I think. I don't know exactly how poorly LTH and Harmoknight run, but from what I've seen Harmoknight is small but decently competent. As a matter of fact, it seems RPGs are harder to make than something like a platformer, because Drill Dozer and Pulseman are both pretty alright. I think the problem is that, again, RPGs have a few more points of failure, so when they inevitably fuck up it limits the scope of the project. I dunno how Little Town Hero works, so I can't say anything about it.
>>44596115Yeah, probably. At least their boss design is still pretty good, although it's pretty noticeable that they had to put what would usually be an EX moveset in the actual game. The work ethic is top notch though. They went back and added a special secret door to the miniboss rush level that lets you fight two of them at the same time, that's something they didn't need to do and nobody really noticed. It's that kind of shit that makes me really believe it when they say shit like "even if only one person buys Kirby games we'll still make them".
