>>44596022>Ok, seriously. What is it with Pokemon fans beef with RBY?>Why do they get so worked up when you even compliment the games. You're getting awfully defensive, taking criticism on a game personally. There was no need to escalate it to that level over a simple comment that could also apply to other Game Boy games of that time and before that time. A lot of Game Boy and 8-bit RPGs have design choices best not repeated in 2D or 3D and narrow-path maze dungeons are usually one of them unless you're talking specific dungeon crawlers like Shin Megami Tensei or Etrian Odyssey.
>No other fanbase treats their origin game this poorly.First off, while your choice of words is loaded, my assumption is that you mean other fanbases aren't as critical on their first installment in hindsight -- in which case, you're not looking close enough at other fanbases to make that call.
Second, you're applying labels based on your values, not facts. First installments, regardless of sales or cultural impact have their moment of endless praise but are never above criticism of their own flaws. The original Super Mario Bros. functional as it was, didn't have half as much intuitive momentum as later 2D Mario platformers, much to the point it had to be updated in Super Mario Maker, the original Mega Man had 6 robot masters while the rest of the major games feature 8, the original Zelda is praised more for concept than execution (Arrows cost rupees, 255 Rupee limit, moon logic required for dungeons or secrets) and those who didn't grow up with it as their first or weren't told how much of an influence it was for BoTW might not enjoy it as far as player experience was concerned.
First installments are not the sacred cows you think they are.
