Generally pretty good, but sometimes a little bit busy. Revenankh, Arghonaut, Cyclohm, Tomohawk, and Mollux are some top tier fakemon designs imo.

If these are supposed to be starters, the Armoured Grass Deer is kinda lame, it's inferior to Sawsbuck in its design as far as a Grass Deer goes and its inferior to Xerneas in its design as far as an armoured Deer goes. The Fire Chameleon is cool, I think the detail is probably a bit much (the pecks and midline) for a Pokemon but otherwise the design is pretty nice, would prefer it over Typhlosion honestly. As for Sea Snail, most of the design is cool but I think it'd look better if it didn't have legs, they just kinda look like it has them because it has to, if it didn't have the legs it'd be a perfectly fine design.

They were indeed designed around the idea of Smogon making their own starters and what fun ideas they could explore with it. Caribolt is a Grass/Electric type physical powerhouse with Galvanize, Smokomodo is a Fire/Ground type mixed attacker with Technician to give it strong attacks and good priority (such as STAB technician Bone Rush) as well has having decent utility, and Snaelstrom is a fat Water/Bug type with Poison Heal and ridiculous bulk and utility.

They even went to the effort of giving them all 3D cell-shaded models like Gen 7 had, since they were made around that time. I don't care much for the deer, but I really love the other two design-wise and battle-wise. Smokomodo's probably my favorite though for his sick design and constant geysers of smoke. Plus Bone Rush is fun to use with him.

Because they'd get shut down immediately.
Showdown is already technically illegal, but TPC doesn't care because they're not taking away the primary audience (casuals who only play the main story).
Just see how quickly Pokemon Uranium got C&D'd. That's pretty much what would happen if Smogon made their own game with an actual campaign.

I'd appreciate it if you're willing. I'm a big time water/grassfag when it comes to starters and often shit on the fire ones, but I've gotta say I'd probably pick this Smokomodo guy. Presumably it's supposed to mainly be a komodo dragon but is it also trying to be part chameleon with that tail though? Nothing else about is is chameleon-like, that's the only bit I wonder about.

Sure, happy to share. Caribolt is the weakest of the three design wise, but it's still alright.
And yeah it's a Komodo Dragon crossed with a Chameleon and an active volcano/steam geyser.

Yeah and I love water/bug types so I immediately like it a lot too. About what you say about cute/cool, I agree, it has that certain edge to it that something like Meganium (which is basically all cute) lacks, like a certain air of power alongside its appealing colors and face. Still not sure about the legs though, makes me wonder if a Scolipede-like situation with a bunch of little snaily small legs with two larger ones clumped together for the arms might've looked better.

They are cool but I hate how bloated their stats tend to be (the starters are one of the few exceptions because they self-imposed a limitation in order to make them seem realistic starters). It really cheapens the competitive concept creation process in my eyes, and makes them look less realistic. There is simply no way something with these stats can be anything short of god tier, for example. Meanwhile, many great Pokémon in standard OU are below 500 BST.

Drought is good on this since it allows it to use Solar Beam and synergize with Fire types. Not to mention that it was originally designed to have a Fire move (Flame Burst), then it was cut and they decided to not replace it with another Fire move because it was actually overpowered.

That has nothing to do with what I said. You can design a Pokémon bottom up without giving it nonsensically bloated stats (which they in fact managed to do with some of their creations aside from the starters). I think the problem is that a lot of contributors are more interested in creating godlike monsters rather than fun experiments, and/or are scared that the final creation will be shit tier like Malaconda so they try to overcompensate. Other symptoms of this problem are how every CAP since Kerfluffle (starters excluded) has been part Fairy, Steel or Dragon, and how often new creations immediately end up establishing themselves as S rank threats that immediately need to be nerfed (happened with Equilibra and Astrolotl and probably would have happened with Jumbao if it didn't end up being accidentally nerfed by Game Freak instead). I lurk the forums and many oldfag contributors to the project are starting to voice similar concerns.

this is an inherent flaw in voting, they still will put any valid proposals ppl argue in favor of as an option and it only takes enough people to vote it in. It also fucks with the design process because they start dropping designs before the abilities are finalized and people have to readjust for it typically to make sense. It's a stupid system really.
