>>44602906It's a modern Pokemon game like any others. The main difference is that unlike Sun and Moon the Pokemon not in the national dex cannot be transferred in (though the Isle of Armor and Crown Tundra DLC compatibility patches are returning most of them by November even if you don't buy them.)
You play through the main game and get to become the champion of a region who's league is a big sporting spectacle like soccer (being based on England.) The champion is your best friend's brother so you have to beat him and a handful of other competitors who make it to the top. Your best friend isn't the only rival and some little fairy bitch and the cute marketable punk girl also challenge you at different points.
The Isle of Armor is what the whole game should have been like with maze like areas just flowing into one another. The rival is also actually a jerk who is trying to become the top student at the dojo on the island to prove they can be a gym leader. Hopefully the Crown Tundra goes even further.
