SM vs USUM deoends on what is most important to you. Most people think SM has the better story, but USUM has better gameplay overall.

Gameplay over everything else, always. I can handle Lusamine's botched arc if it means everything else was made more enjoyable, having more things to toy around with, and better challenges to face. Also as a bonus of the story differences there's less bullshit with Lillie, arguably one of the worst characters to ever fall upon the series.

Gen 7 added some nice things in the second titles, but the story in the first set of games is objectively better.

In a similar fashion BW2 added some really cool stuff to Unova, but it just isn't as good as the game that it's built on the back of.

Depends on which ones you mean.
Liking BW over BW2? Sure. Liking SM over USUM? Sure. Liking RB over Yellow? Sure.
But liking GS over Crystal, RS over Emerald, and DP over Platinum is just objectively a bad opinion.

Yeah, there's something about the OG story that's nice. Plus B2W2's just is kinda... bland, even for pokemon. Which is odd, since conceptually it's decent (pokemon kidnapping & chasing after it).
