The pokemon anime has been ongoing ever since Gen 1, so it has no impact on which is the peak as its an issue all gens had.

Ash should have never left Japan. Unova is literally halfway around the world from Japan.

Ash should have won the Sinnoh league and stayed in Japan with Dawn and the Unova anime should have switched characters to Hilbert and Hilda. XY anime should have switched to Serena and Calem.

It was a very stupid battle for many reasons, but "Pikachu losing to a level 5 Snivy" isn't one of them. On the other hand, if you want to bitch about Pikachu losing to Servine a few episodes later, go ahead. There wasn't any real justification for that one.

Considering the only 'plot' is doing 8 Gyms then the League, even if you include catching and evolving his team as an episode each, that's still maybe 20ish episodes of main plot. And the rest are, by definition, filler.

A Pokemon anime could just be two cours and that'd honestly probably be fine. I remember an anon a while back had an idea where multiple people from different parts of a region set out at once to go through a league, fleshing them out as they fight the gyms, and then ending with a big climactic tournament intermixed with the E4. Would have genuine excitement as it wouldn't be obvious who would win, if any. Could also throw in evil team shittery too.
But gotta keep a constant year-round anime to keep the merch sales up I guess

I think making up a new League format where they're competing to knock each other out (something like yugioh's duelist kingdom) could work better. Maybe if a Pokemon faint's it's 'out' and you can't use it again. Adds some actual stakes to battles and gives them an excuse to constantly cycle through teams. Knock out a few main characters/Pokemon in the early seasons and set the precedent that nobody is safe and the battles might actually be interesting/emotional.
I'd probably limit teams to 3 instead of 6 though, or else it would become a clusterfuck.
