Be honest, /vp/. If you could, would you revert Pokemon games back to sprites/ Or would you rather stick with 3D Models?

I'm admittedly biased towards crispy spritework, but I think if GF gets their shit together (so, probably never), I can appreciate 3D more.

With all the effort that went into making the 3D models, throwing it all away just to make sprites again is such a waste of time and resources along with being a huge setback towards development that it would be a detriment to the games. Polishing the 3D models and giving them actually decent animations is a far better approach, one that sadly won't happen.

Yes, but without the need to constantly create new sprites for every game. Again, polish what we have instead of throwing it out for something new - just improve the sprite animations as they go along and occasionally give a few pokemon new poses if needed.

As much as I love the sprites, 3D was just the required natural progression. Although I do think the animations need a LOT of work.
And before any of you retards argue otherwise, I absolutely guarantee you would all be fucking PISSED if gen 8 went back to 2D sprites. You can be contrarian all you want but you know it's true.

2d it is more visually appealing 3d has some rally good models and animations but 2d has better design over all typloshion and hippopowdob are 2d examples the scorbunny imigage someone else posted is where 3d shines (2d is better for battle 3d is for the overworld)

Name ONE modern game Nintendo game with quality models. You can't as Nintendo has hardly made any progress since their Wii days. In fact, outside Mario you could argue models have gotten worse.

3D no question. It looks way nicer and adds more than it takes away to the ganes overall. Even if you don't like the Pokemon, something like the Wild Area or Isle of Armor could not be done nearly as well in 2D.

What if they did a game within a game? Surely the hardware is there by now. Like how in the early games you'd see people playing pokemon on gameboys, trading and stuff. What if the next pokemon game allowed you to buy a gameboy and a pokemon game in game, with a full playable retro version of the game you're playing?

I would switch back to sprites but it isn't because sprites are better, they are fucking shit. However I'd rather deal with shitty sprites than a dex cut. If we still had sprites GF would have no excuse for not fitting in everyone.

If mainline 3D would improve and reach Colosseum/Battle Revolution levels, I’d say stick with 3D. But if they’re gonna continue to suck at it, go back to 2D.

I like the 3d models themselves, but hate that most of their animations are so lifeless, I know some pokémon like Sudowoodo have in lore reasons for being nearly static, but other pokemon just don't even look alive due to the super lame idle animation

I feel like every new generation should be sprite based and then remakes cna be done in 3D.
I feel the reason sprites are more fondly looked upon because you had to fill in the gaps (how it would look taking a hit, how the pokemon looks while delivering an attack) and the developers had to chose a dynamic pose thay conveyed the pokemon's personality in 2 frames of animation(in later games). But now, they're models that for 90% of pokemon hardly move. Pokemon that actually have static animations are great in 3D (Ludicolo and Hitmontop come to mind) but the rest hardly move. It's fine with pokemon that the general fanbase knows (gens 1-4) but now with new games, you see the plain boring 3D models, that effictivly have no personality.

Sprites aren't coming back, and I don't have that many issues with the Pokemon or character models. They're not ideal, but they're not the actual worst. Some of the animation is fucking dick, too.
The overworld though, shit's fucking ugly. Gen 6, 7, and 8 are terrible looking in the overworld.

man, KOF13 is gorgeous
but the sprites are drawn like they're for a 640x480 game instead of for one that runs in HD resolution -- they're only 2x the size of the classic KOF sprites , although that lets them be smoother and more detailed than Blazblue, which is drawn in proper HD size
