Having a certain amount of Ding denoted one's rank, authoritative power, and only the nobility were allowed a certain amount. This fits with Serperior's nobility theme, and Samurott's theme as samurai were feudal lords/nobility in Japan.
If you vaguely look at Emboar, you can imagine a pig being roasted within the flames of the pot. It's a cool inspiration which could've been handled better, and maybe could've used a different typing (Steel perhaps) to emphasize the lore.
