Which Type, other than Fairy (because otherwise this thread would be filled with literally just that), would you remove from the series if given the chance? Perhaps replace it with something else?

Fairies are already meant to be mischievous and in some cases, malicious in folklore. Dark and Fairy could be merged quite well actually.

It would save Dark from constantly being unsure if it's actually evil or not, and save fairy from literally just being pink things

But you need the split, because they behave differently physically, and a lot of Rock Types are actually made out of rock. The fact they're considered the same element doesn't really matter, like Water and Ice being different. Part of what a Type is is a way to explain certain things being stronger or ineffective against certain other things, and if two Types are physically different, it's going to manifest as different Type interactions.

If you merge them, how are you gonna explain Rock Types suddenly losing a Fighting weakness which makes too much sense to get rid of? Rocks are heavy and should shatter ice, exoskeletons and knock birds out of the sky. Ground is not a solid dense material like that and should ground electricity as well as not affect flying enemies.

I wouldnt remove Fairy but I would 100% remove Normal if given a chance. Designated shitmon type even more so than Bug, a normal Pokemon has to have absolutely insane stats or a dual type to carry it if it wants to be relevant.

I'd take out Bug. It's not like I dislike the type, but I just hate how restrictive it makes designing insect Pokémon because they automatically become Bug-types unless there's a gimmick. Dragon doesn't have this problem and Ghost has many varied designs, some of which aren't even ghosts. I'd also like to see fewer birds as Flying types and less fish as Water types. They can still fly and live in the water since typing doesn't stop Beedrill from flying or Grapploct from living in the ocean, but I think we can get more interesting designs from them if there was more justification needed for their typing other than "it's a bird/fish".

Maybe I'm just thinking this because I decided to play Nexomon and saw an Electric-type bird and a Fire-type fish. All monsters in that game are single typed, so they couldn't have slapped flying or water onto them as easily as they could if they were Pokémon.

Dragon, it serves only to be "normal but stronger". "Strong" is not even a proper element. it makes more sense to lump them in with Fairy. Replace it with a Monster/Beast type, a more universal idea of a "Stronk-type".

I don't really want to see types removed but rather they become more balanced. Some ideas: also, fuck elo
Rock needs better accuracy and more special attack moves available. Should do normal damage against Fighting (try blocking a granite brick at 300mph) and resist Electric.
Ice needs more resistances, including immunity to its own typing.
Normal should resist Fairy and Return/Frustration should be brought back.
Bug should do normal damage to Fairy and resist Rock
Electric needs a handful stronger physical attack moves. Should resist fighting (imagine wrestle a taser or punching a powerline).
Grass should do normal damage to dragons, why wouldn't they? Ironically they should resist them too because dragons don't eat vegan.

You're not so much helping Ice's defensive capabilities with that as you are shooting its actually good offensive abilities in the foot. Ice if nothing else needs to resist Electric. The only reason it doesn't is probably because someone at Game Freak was unaware that snow/ice is notoriously a piss poor conductor of electrcity.

The fact normal people don't believe in fairies does not stop them from existing in this universe, and a being with magical powers if going to overpower normies, if anything.

What? Bugs get smooshed by rocks. I agree with Fairy though, Fairy should lose the resistance to Bug and Bug should resist Fairy instead. I might even go so far as to make Fairy weak to Bug.

Dragon's resistances don't come from logical reasoning, it's a nod to the 3 starter Types + Pikachu's Type. It's symbolically showing that it's the "final boss" Type are the starter you got at the beginning of your journey is going to have trouble against it.

I agree with everything else you said.

They are also very good at using them for protection. Every animal gets crushed if the rock is big enough and in the pokemon world most bugs are the size of small animals, I understand the reasoning though even if it makes just as much sense as "fairy GOOD, always win over EVIL dark".

So one instance of a type advantage can make complete sense but not the other? Incineroar is based on a heel wrestler but because wrestling is fake IRL, it must also be fake in fiction and seem to be the reason why it's not part fighting type. Maybe I'm just reiterating memes now. Fairies factually does not exist irl so it would be funny if normal did resist them.

You say that, but in the first 2 gens Normal was supreme. Snorlax was the single most dominant Pokemon in any generation. It's the strongest OU Pokemon in the history of the tier, and Tauros is a close second. Neither of them have insane stats or a dual type.

Normal is a type that is a victim of circumstance.
