There's a reason why they only introduced 6 mons with gender differences after gen 4, and 2 of them are practically different mons. But the damage was already done. There'll always be another extraneous sprite and model for a bunch of Pokemon, and it can't be undone.
Having those excessive sprites meant extra work, which incentivized GF to switch to 3D before they were really ready and now we're stuck with lifeless and soulless models.
