Design-wise it's 5/8 that feel like they go for the same fucking thing, a humanoid brawly-sporty fire monster. If you don't enjoy humanoid monster design you literally haven't had the option of picking the fire starter since Gen 2, and for the last 2 gens (XY's grass and water starter were on the line but didnt cross it IMO) you've have literally no good option at all except to box your starter. It was bad enough when the firebros we're getting dicked over, now the disease has infected starters as a group and the one mon that is supposed to be really special and unique for us, the one mon we're supposed to bond with the most playing through the game, is always going to be a shit design for all the players who never enjoyed humanoid mons.
