Arceus isn't even part of the story, the player has never canonically encountered or caught it. The only thing canon about Arceus is its existence.

Honestly, gen 3 was too soon for the deities who created the land sea and sky when the gen 2 legends were just a phoenix and a magical dolphin bird thingy.
In terms of escalation, it goes
Gen 1 > Gen 2 > Gen 5 > Gen 8 > Gen 6 > Gen 3 > Gen 7 > Gen 4.

Gen 7's legwnds weren't really that powerful. The main trio were basically just strong aliens, and the Tapus are not much higher in lore.

It most certainly is an issue because there’s no upper limit. We already have Arceus, where do you escalate from there? The Demi-Arceus? Super duper gods? Pokemon from 2,000 years in the future? Human-Pokemon hybrids?

fuck me man thats actually a cool idea. even though you’re being facetious

It could be like the opposite of fossils, hyper-evolved Pokemon who adapted to fit specific niches in the future. Plus you could have some really neat regional forms too
