Too many options for switching slows down the game, even with the risk of being double attacked. 4v4 encourages niche strategies because you can basically run your core, and then have 1-3 gimmicks in your pocket that you can bench when they would be a liability. Using the the most famous example, SeJun Park didn't use Pachirisu in matches where he knew EQ would be a threat. In a 6v6 you take a much bigger risk when you try to stray away from the defined meta because your gimmick is always going to be used, even in matches where it has no effect.
