Coming up with new IPs unironically takes way more effort to put in compared to what the guy in the video says.
People make fangames because they want to make content with low effort, even if they don't admit it.
It's takes a real special talent to know how to code, write good stories and characters, and make good music.

This guy gets it. Making fangames is a lot less effort then trying to make something profitable. With fangames you get a recognizable ip, assets, references of how to do it right and concepts that would probably take years to come up with gift wrapped to you. And I guarantee that most fangame creators would probably get raped on the market as they need more creativity and work with less chance to succeed because they don't have an IP that practically sells itself

1) by making good fangames you get a LOT of clout. This is not the exception. It's the rule. In that same vein, absolutely NOBODY will want to play a pokemon knockoff right off the bat. You'll have to do a whole fuckton of marketing to get it off the ground

2) making a fangame doesn't mean you're uncreative. It's actually the opposite - by refining the source material you're learning a lot about development, and the creativity goes into the details and the vision, not whatever flavor of the week flight of fancy your ass has come up with. It's more creative to make a game with a good idea behind it than to make a shitty ass indie game relying on a weak gimmick that nobody cares about, and only drags the game down.

Also, that fat fucking retard is forgetting that games like Mushroom Kingdom Fusion exist. How is that game uncreative?
