The idea is to put the player on a level playing field with the gym leader so that they have to think tactically, but if all the opponent's pokemon are just objectively better, it just tilts it in their favor a little heavily.

People aren’t really seething, over the fact that he’s not monotype, they’re seething about the fact that he’s supposed to be an electric type gym leader but half of his team isn’t electric type. If he wasn’t advertised as an electric specialist then nobody would mind.

People seethe about Volkner because his team is an incohesive frail weak mess in spite of the fact he breaks the monotype. Short of giving him completely random Pokemon (and Octillery and Ambipom have tenuous connections to 'electricity' at best) it's a terrible way to do a theme team.

Ambipom kinda does, or at least it does in theory. It's got nasty plot + agility + baton pass so it could set up for an electric type sweeper. Problem is it completely fails in practice, as one of his two electric mons is his lead, and the other one carries charge beam as its only special. Actually, both his electric mons carry only charge beam for their special attacks. Ironically the only pokemon that would truly benefit from ambipom's setup is octillery, which isn't even an electric type.

It's not even so much backwards compatibility itself that's the issue, but rather the kike slaves who unironically allow it to be a real factor in their enjoyment of a game and how ridiculously spiteful they get when they can't have it.
I'm sure you could have some fangame maker that delivers THE Pokemon game to end all Pokemon games, and certain 'people' would dismiss it without backwards compatibility.

You'd be surprised at how many people actually "play" pokemon this way. They just want to transfer in their trophy mons, use it in 1-2 battles (sometimes 0), and then let it collect dust in their box until the next game comes out.

That's the thing. There is none, other than I guess having new 'bros'.
The other side of the dexit coin are the people who truthfully do not care about the quality of the games, but are perfectly content as long as they can methodically collect everything in one spot that's useful to them. The actual games, the gameplay, the competitive, the world, the plot, the music is all secondary to that. The game, the actually important part here, doesn't have to be actually good or bad. That's why I framed my hypothetical the way I did.
To be fair, maybe these people on their own didn't ruin the franchise, but they're certainly not a positive influence.

Fuck this. This is bullshit. Reborn does this, which is bad, and they do it was restrictively as possible, which is worse.

It's one thing to make the Gym Leader a challenge, but it's another thing to actually make it unfair. If they have better access to moves and better stats than you, then the way to win becomes grinding, which is the most boring solution possible.

this but in reality they weren't able to cough up a good enough DP regional dex with enough electric or fire types for Volkner and Flint respectively.
You can't fit a shit game design aspect into lore, unfortunately. At least Platinum is canon

Just because they have 6 pokemon doesn't mean it's tedious. Fighting 6 fast sweepers is going to take less turns to get a win or loss than a single toxapex.
