The issue is that they added a new type in gen 6, which is way too late to add new types. When they added Dark and Steel, it was only gen 2, so it was early enough to add new types and everybody would be okay with it.

What's funny is that the only reason that Dragon Types are so strong is because of their ridiculously high BSTs, the typing itself is fine. Fairies didn't need to be straight up immune to Dragon type moves.

It's a bit a stretch. Fairy is weak to industrialization (Steel and Poison), so I felt like electric fit with the theme.

a lot of the shit doesn't make sense. they don't have to make sense. they are often intuitive in some cases because these are kids games, but in some cases they are not and are meant to be discovered rather than intuited.

Still at base english, it's easy for you to interpret given the second part you received the appropriate context anyways. No shame in being wrong. In any case, it disarms the idea of electric being a weakness though. There may be more appropriate options thematically like fire or something.

Flying's weakness to electric is vulnerability, exposure to lightning due to altitude. That makes sense.

Psychic being strong against poison is because of foresight. There's probably some mystical influence too about purification since the games used to be superstitious.

The ice and fighting ones you've got me though, at a certain point it comes to "balance please understand" when it comes to advantages and resistances.

Grass already has that niche of can't survive in the cold. Some bugs hibernate as well, and dying is just part of their life cycle. We couldn't apply that catch all logic or ice would kill water types too.

If you are pissed about established Pokemon changing types that's one thing. I still think it's retarded, but whatever. But why in the hell is it suddenly "too late" to add new types?

If you were pissed about that, how pissed were you about regional variants? That at least makes more sense since GF refuses to update the GTS to accommodate them and makes collecting a full Pokedex more confusing than the simple # system.

I didn't realize Dark was strong against the 3 best types in gen 1. I didn't realize Dark's only weaknesses were to 2 of the worst offensive types and Gamefreak made no effort to fix that problem. I didn't realize Dark pointlessly resisted a type that already sucked for literally no reason. I didn't realize that old Pokemon were retconned into being Dark and instantly went from shitmons to viable.
But no, they're totally comparable because "immune to and strong against le powerful type".

Fairy in hindsight was never necessary to re balance a bunch of type interactions, but GF obviously did it because it was simply easier to do so rather than test out adjusting alot more of the existing types across the board.
And all because they never thought shit through past gen 2 and sat on the existing balance through all of the 00s. I still laugh at steel being a gross overreaction to make sure no other type would bulldoze any others like psychic but just became one of the best types by default.
