It was always shit. Of anything the Advanced generation and Diamond & Pearl anime are among the best because Ash isn't a complete retard. Black & White was shit, Kalos was pretty good except for really early on where we got the typical Pikachu has been reset and Ash has to lose against the first gym leader (or in the case of Hoenn the first one he faces). At this point the anime is so predictable it's not worth watching.

There was no reset in Kalos.

Ash being dumb in the OS is acceptable because he was still a rookie new to Pokemon, just like the audience.

You didn't even watch it because that was a good example of Ash losing early on because it's not that he wasn't strong enough, it's that he was outplayed by Viola's strategy of freeze the ground with Ice Beam + covering the walls and ceiling with Sticky Webs
