XD is pretty solid. The other is an overhyped mess beloved by nostalgiafags for its edgy tone and generic jrpg design characters.

Yes to Colosseum, no to Gale of Darkness. Colosseum is the closest the series has got to a 'mature' Pokemon game, and it gets really challenging if you don't prepare yourself for later battles. Gale of Darkness drops the mysterious feel in place of the same old "you're a 12-year old kid to save the world" plot

I enjoy the three Genius Sonority games. Revolution in short bursts. Love seeing the Pokémon scale compared to their trainers. XD is fantastic, if you got PC try the XG romhack. Colosseum is fun, I enjoyed the story and desert setting.

I think they’re definitely worth playing. Definitely different experiences from a normal Pokemon game but I really enjoyed them. Replayed Gale of Darkness in 2013 while catching every shadow Pokémon on its first appearance. Got all the way to the final boss and then lost the memory card. I’m still hoping it’ll turn up some day.
