Playing Sacred Gold. Falkner was tough as shit. I didn't expect his entire fucking team to have aerial ace. And giving solarbeam and power herb to one of his pokemon was an unpleasant surprise

Difficulty mods are too easy, but also true. Haven't finished Sacred myself but I think it's going to take it somewhere. Sootopolis Gym in Rutile/Star was a big war of attrition that I survived by the lowest stock of items, PP, and Pokemon that I can remember.

Yes, it's really not as bad or unfair as /vp/ makes it out to be.
The game hands out broken held terrain seeds that give you huge boosts on the fields the gym leaders use, and I guess I just had a good team comp (Swampert/Meowstic-M/Flygon/Arcanine/Klinklang/Haxorus for most of the game, with a few rotating members). They don't actually give bosses EVs/good IVs until around halfway through the game, and you're given EV training equipment long before that.
The gauntlet is just flat out unfair, though, mostly because, well, it's 3 separate battles, your buffs/screens don't carry between them and it only heals your non-KO'd Pokemon. I gave it about 10 or so tries and trained up a new team member (Comfey) until I just said fuck it and spammed Revival Herbs.

Thought it was going to be an easy victor. Was able to defeat his first 2 pokemon fairly easy with 1 hit each. Then this fucker comes out and my team can't touch him. Every attack misses and he killls my team with earthquake + hail weather.

Claire was a cakewalk compared to Pryce

The least fun comes to mind. I played in the Seattle regionals around ORAS. I had a few really fun games. I had a Rest Talk Suicine and some other Pokémon I really adored. I met this cute little girl, she was literally like... under 5 feet tall. My non Pokémon playing gf and her non Pokémon playing bf who were both there to support our autisms were both obviously bothered by how friendly we were being but it wasn’t weird or romantic... she was just a fun opponent and I wish I got her number or even her name. She was chill.

Right after her, I went up against a fat, black autist. He was very unfriendly, didnt greet me And evaded eye contact. Kept peeking at my screen, I was a poorfag with a 2DS, so I literally had to point the infrared at his in order to make it work. He was just a shameless ass hole and everything wrong with the people who play this game.

If you’re on here, fat black autist... I hope you fix your brain.

I'd probably say the Infernal Cult admin fight in my Egglocke (similar to a nuzlocke except more random and I let pokemon faint) of pokemon insurgence.

I had almost nothing that could touch primal groudon and you get trapped in the base and can't grind effectively. Luckily, I had saved some focus sashes and cheesed him with those. Every pokemon besides groudon was easy but desolate land is so stupid. I think this took me a one try once I had the strategy but this was still silly and I thought I'd have to restart the game because I was trapped in the base.

The 8th gym leader in Clover. My team had nothing but ass IV's and most of my team was weak to rock or didn't have the stats to just tank something like stone edge which like 4 of his pokemon had. That and his Motherfuck alone destroyed me three times, it even had the anti ice pinch berry. Took me a good 8 tries to finally take him down but it was a huge pain in the ass.

I'm still stuck before the league in clover because I'm too scared of a huge ass beating. My team wasn't really super optimized and I usually face e4+champ in regular games while underleveled, using healing items. Since healing items are limited in clover, I kinda think I'll just fail. Anyways, most fun and hardest pokemon fangame I ever had the pleasure to try, almost all hackroms are complete shite

I was in fourth grade when HGSS came out and I found out there would be a VGC Regional Championship in my state. I begged my parents to let me go to it, and our whole family drove out and went to the event. As a kid I thought I was hot shit because I was the only one in my class with Arceus and I could dab on anyone in the Poke-Walker battle area in Viridian City (no DSs in school so I never found out how good I was against the others for real). I didn't know anything about battling and went in with some sort of rain team (Jolteon, Kyogre, Rayquaza, Ludicolo, Dusknoir, Regigigas). I beat some other kid waiting outside for the event to start without too much difficulty so I thought I would sweep through. Nope! I got my ass handed to me in the first round. I don't remember much from the actual battle aside from the guy's Tyranitar which ripped my team apart. I was in tears afterwards, but I got over it quick enough to enjoy the rest of my time at the place. And I got a shiny Eevee just for participating.

The battle devolved into a bunch of strategic healing and reviving, and my Helioptile, which had been the least useful member of the team, ended up being the only reason I survived because I was able to inflict Paralysis to buy time. I would have lost that match if it had gone on for a single turn longer.

First fight with Ultra Necrozma in US. I hadn't played any game since BW2, and didn't spoil myself with game info, so it was a big surprise. I didn't know what type it was either.
Needless to say Necrozma just one shot every member of my party. They were slightly underleveled, but still. Did it pretty easy the second time, but yeah, that was the first time that my ass got handed to me by a fucking wild Pokemon when I had a fully healed team.
At second place I would put Steven from RS. Also went in without getting spoiled, so I had no idea what types Armaldo and Cradily were.
Maybe worth it to mention that I never use healing items in battles, even when I'm sure I can win with them.

Oldest I can remember was definitely Red in GSC. I don't exactly recall the context, but I remember that I walked towards Mt. Silver bc I thought it was were Mewtwo was. So when I finally reached the last chamber, and fucking Red from previous game was standing there, I got really excited. But all my mons were underleveled for the battle, and I'm pretty sure I tried to beat him for at least two days until I finally managed to win. I was 6 or 7 iirc.

I also struggled a lot with Ultra Necrozma

Pika Cup is scary until you realize the few Pokemon you can use are perfectly suited for the job. Even so that's a heck of finale. Reminds me of Little Cup Round 2, that final can take you absolutely down to the wire.

not even necessarily because it's 5 levels above you, has 1180 BST, and has an army of ralts and kirlia that can put you to sleep, but because you're locked into that section of the game until you beat it, for a really dumb reason too
basically had to set up a loop of making it use up all of its attacks by switching/healing/reviving until i could finish it off
