What could have been a taste of battles the bracket wouldn't allow was instead just the group beating on randos so they look strong. The most notable event in that whole mess was Plumeria being eliminated by Ilima and his Eevee. Everyone conveniently ignored eliminating their friends even though they'd have to do it later anyway.
The 1v1 format of this league was trash. It leaves pokemon that were treated as main characters like Sophocles' Togedemaru and Lana's Eevee with little to no time to shine.
Ash vs Faba was shit. Nothing about Faba's prior deeds against Ash and nothing interesting happens in the battle because we needed a comedy battle in the highest stakes part of the region.
Hau vs Samson Oak added nothing.
Mallow v. Lana was OK at best. Mallow randomly has second thoughts about fighting Lana and has to be talked out of them by her opponent. She also finally gets Bloom Doom right only to lose anyway, making her struggles with learning the move feel pointless. Mallow then loses to Aqua Jet. Did I mention this is a grass user fighting a water user?
Mina had no reason to enter the league and nothing about her prior appearances suggested she wanted to short of being strong enough to beat some team skull grunts.
Lillie v. Gladion was drawn out for an obvious conclusion and only really served to show that Lillie could successfully use Subzero Slammer in battle. Gladion v. James has similar problems.
Ash v. Guzma is okay for the most part, but Golisopod blocking Thunderbolt remains stupid. Similarly, surviving Gigavolt Havoc just to lose to Iron Tail is more anime bullshit.
