In VGC, you can actually use multiple Megas, just not at once per round.
And buffs are still buffs even if something else was buffed too.

Yeah, you're right, my Magikarp got buffed because it can use Dynamax now. It doesn't matter that literally every other Pokemon except three of them can also use Dynamax, my Magikarp got Dynamax, so it's a buff. Based Dynamax for buffing 890 Pokemon.

they're creative and fun ways to buff pokemon that needed the extra spotlight, like gardevoir, beedrill, pidgeotto, mawile, kangaskhan, manectric, and so many more. those pokemon were considered weak, and players were discouraged from using them despite them being their favorites. megas allow you to use these pokemon again without shooting yourself in the foot.

Megas have a much higher opportunity cost because you can only have one per team rather than 6.
Who the hell would choose something like Mega Beedrill over Mega Salamence? Not someone who wants to win.
Whereas if Beedrill got a buff that didn't force you not to use other god-tier mons, it's a lot easier to justify using it.

Because Megas and Z moves had a balance in that it requires a held item. Dyna has no such balance, so battles are way more about "who gets big better".

They are apart of canon, they were in two mainline games, they are resources that aren't being used, and they are a far better version of "Dynamaxing" as they represent a true upgrade of the pokemon it is used on, not just "oh they are bigger projections of the pokemon" crap
