There were also Alolan forms, and there were 300 Pokemon in SM and 400 in USUM. The dex still had variety, it just used other region's pokemon for that.

If Roserade counts, the others like Rhyperior, Magnezone, Gallade, Magmortar, Electivire, and Happiny should be fair game since they turned single or two-stage lines into 3 as well.

I had wanted to pull this together for a while. It would help if this can be further backed up by showing the average stats of all first and second stage NFE, third stage and single stage excluding legendaries to prove that more evolutions is a good thing contrary to what people on here like to claim.
