Me and my mom have played Pokemon together basically my entire life. When I was 7 she bought me Red and herself Blue and ever since then we have played just about every Pokemon game together.

My mom was iffy about it when I still played as a teenager. But once Pokemon Go became a huge thing, she was fine with me playing it so long as it's the handheld games. She hated the app because she thought a weirdo would try to kidnap me while I was hunting Pokemon.

I have nieces and nephews, they're into Pokemon. Since they're into it, we all sort of joined in so we could bond over a mutual hobby.

My parents bought me every Pokémon game from Red to Pearl. After that, I started a part time job in high school and bought them myself. I do raids on my Switch at the dinner table with my nephew when I visit them and the only comment my mom made is, “Make sure you help [nephew] evolve those Pokémon he needs help with.”
Since I know every evolution method in the game, it took us an hour to gather the appropriate materials, but I got him his shiny charm. My dad would just say things like, “Hey, use that one with four arms. He looks tough,” or, “Man, that ice moth hits hard for a bug!” And then he'd proceed to either drink or watch TV.

My mother was the one that got me into games to begin with. For the record I'm 25 and she's 47, she's been playing games since their conception, basically. I remember being a toddler and seeing her play stuff like Silent Hill and Resident Evil. I started learning English when I was 4 with Disney videos but she thought games would be a good way to learn as well, and so she introduced me to Zelda (ALTTP specifically, later on OoT and MM) plus a shitload of NES, SNES and 64 games in general. We always played stuff together or found games by ourselves we'd eventually recommend to the other. Nowadays her reflexes aren't as good and she struggles with games as simple as Undertale, it's.. kind of sad in a way, realizing your mom is getting old. Nowadays she mostly plays stuff like Ace Attorney or Animal Crossing. She does play GO a lot but doesn't want to try the main games, and knows I like the games/monsters myself so sometimes she'll buy me plushies to gift me.
So basically I never in my life had to "hide my power level" because games were always a hobby we both shared together.

my family is weird because my mom keeps adopting more children as her kids become adults, trying to keep them out of shitty homes etc. So basically everytime I visit I have younger siblings i play pokemon/smash with and they all enjoy it
