Remove Ash.
Each region has its own, self-contained story following the game's respective protagonists (for example: Lucas, Dawn, and Barry in Sinnoh)
Every part is roughly 40-50 episodes long. Doesn't overstay its welcome.
Follows the game's plot (but not to a dot if liberties need to be taken or if the plot actually needs to be improved like in Sword and Shield's case).
Characters have actual developmental arcs and story beats. Characters aren't one-note robots and dialogue feels natural.
The overall story and character arcs have actual, satisfying conclusions, regardless if each individual character succeeds in their personal goals or not. No vague goals such as "Pokemon Master" to milk.
Still targeted at kids, but older kids.
No romance or hints at romance.
Artstyle is more Sugimori-accurate rather than being a lazy bastardization that looks like "middle schooler's first anime drawings" pic. OP's pic related.
Pokemon are actually shown using their special biological traits in battle. Not everything needs to be a listed Pokemon Move.
Good animation. Battles are actually choreographed and no tropes to cover lack of animation such as "teeth made of energy" or "everything causes an explosion".

They're bringing back past characters way before AG, DP, BW and SM did. There's been a lot of continuity, too.

As much as I hate the Ashnime I won't lie I unironically like watching Hoenn and Sinnoh (Though maybe re-watching it when I'm no longer a kid might change that), though seeing more self contained stories would be nice

Not really, PokeSpe sometimes goes overboard with the backstories and traits it gives some of the characters, Pokemon isn't the most complex story ever but a lot of chars at least give you a basic idea of what they're supposed to be. From my perspective Spe sometimes just ignores that and does whatever it feels like, not that different from PokeAni in that regard(maybe more extreme sometimes)
