XY is fairly recent and the Kanto stuff has evergreen nostalgia. What I do want though is Hoenn/Sinnoh references and even BW. I worry about everything in the middle.

Yeah, it honestly bugs me Ash has been to Hoenn/Sinnoh each 3 times already and nothing from AG/DP was referenced at all. We'll get Cynthia at some point but I really hope something else related to his Sinnoh journey is shown like his Pokemon.

XY ended 4 years ago and was rerun on Japanese TV throughout the SM era, and was even added to youtube officially during the Covid-19 hiatus. Even kids who didn't watch XY when it aired might have seen it online or on TV after.

Besides Greninja, I do think we'll see Bonnie/Clemont on an eventual Lumiose City visit, and maybe some of his other XY Pokemon.

Anything before SM is too old for the current audience. I doubt the writers care what children watch on the internet. The XY gang has as much probability of returning as May and Dawn.

That's not true at all, as I said, the internet and official youtube channels are common for kids of today...this isn't the early 2000's when most people didn't watch shows online. Kids of today "grew up with" online streaming. It's the norm to them.

In fact other than the SM cast (and maybe Misty/Brock?), stuff from XY has the next best chance of appearing and we know some parts of it obviously will. Greninja is still all over the merch and Bonnie/Clemont are a shoe-in to appear IMO.

I doubt it, battles in this series tend to be short, look at how short some of Ash's world tournament battles were against filler characters...it'll probably be around that length.

Such pretty and clean art that really showed the best of S&M style and animation, pretty kino ngl. I remember Lugia and some Lucario/Dragonite cuts had nice sakuga. Sobble’s episode was pretty too.

You know I just realized the SM cast appearing means the previous saga cameos of the female companions has returned (and I'm sure we'll see Lillie later on).

They stopped it with Iris and Serena, but now this is the first time since Dawn appeared in BW that we're getting the previous saga characters a return in the next one.

To be fair, when thinking about movie 20, they originally wanted it to be this big event where all Ash's previous traveling companions came together. Unfortunately, they couldn't think of a way to reintroduce so many characters, introduce new ones, and have a well paced story without it being a total cluster fuck. The idea was shelved, but still gave them all cameos in the credits.

She's not meant to be the main rival of the arc like Paul, she's just one of the tough opponents he'll face during this series, not unlike any other gym leader in past series.

This isn't supposed to be any different than, say, Ash losing to Lenora and having a rematch the next episode or losing to Wulfric and challenging him again a couple episodes later.

People will be disappointed just because they thought Bea would be really important despite there being no reasons to believe such a thing

We already have Bea and Ash will battle Raihan much later in the season. I assume the early ones like Nessa, Alister, Milo and Kabu will all be fought by Ash at some point.

I think these will appear in episodes but Ash won't battle them:

Opal (old and likely retiring in the anime)
Melony and Gordie (not much story potential)
Piers (probably just see him when Marnie and Team Yell get introduced)

It's kinda sad how boring Ash's Dragonite and Gengar have become. Gengar especially could have had a really fun personality like most Gengar we've seen in the past. Really proves once a pokemon is fully evolved the writers have no idea what to do with it, probably why Ash's starters don't fully evolved till the tail-end of the series and why Goodra had to leave mid-series.

The first point is entirely accurate. Even in the anime, you can trade away a Pokemon for no reason at all and it will still be obedient. They don't really lash out except in cases of extreme abuse.

The communication bit is iffy because there are plenty of Pokemon whose personalities clash with their trainers, and the two have to work together to reach a middle-ground between them. You get situations like Misty's Psyduck or Ash's Gliscor, but the relationship between trainer and Pokemon definitely isn't as much of a focus point as it is in Digimon.

The part of this that is wrong is that Pokemon do sometimes have strained relationships with their trainers (Paul/Chimchar and Goh/Raboot come to mind), though its usually nothing more complex than "The trainer is pushing me too hard or abusing me." not really the whole deeper "Conflict of beliefs, ideals, and truly messed up personality" thing.

Smart? Agumon? I remember seeing a group of Clefairy with their own spaceship they made from stealing mundane staff.

Pokemon also function as their own person in the anime multiple time and had their own society. They has shown to be smarter than the Digimon owned by the Adventure's Digidestined.

This is Machinedramon.

I think that makes them arguably worse. I get that not talking can be used very maturely in media (Ratatouille did it very well), but not usually when the world itself has so many of that creature being used in a very questionable manner as battle tools, but not as true equals. You know why Ratatouille worked? It was because the character who knew of Remy treated him like an equal, no bossing him around, no giving him orders, none of that, he didn't need to talk, they worked without that, and eventually that small space in the world understood that they could work in true harmony as equals. They never get that close in Pokemon, because Pokemon establishes that these creatures are smarter than us, and we only use them for battle, they don't have freedom once they are captured to do whatever they want (Digimon do btw, they can leave and come back as they please), they are 'friends' but they don't really show a desire to be seen as equals., and that leads them to be used primarily for battle/tools.

Pokemon shown to communicate much better even without talking which is their bond with their partner are more meaningful.

Not to mention, Pokemon aren't battle tool. Majority of Pokemon are ether pets and used for other thing such construction work, social service, police work , medical job and research activity.

Digimon doesn't have freedom ether, they are specifically made to suit a specific partner from the moment they are born and they are forced to stick with him even if he become abusive or start pushing him hard . Pokemon still shown their freedom even after being capture and doesn't obey a trainer if he is not worthy.

For example : Goh Pincer still refuse to fight even if Goh choose him. Its trainer that has to develop himself to use their pokemon unlike Digimon that is basically built to be a sudden Digidestined's Slave.

What is Renamon and Rika? Renamon was not made for Rika, she just showed up. Rika is literally the textbook example of how Pokemon should be handling their Pokemon/Human interactions. Rika starts off as a character who only wants to be the best like no one ever was, and that meant fighting and getting as strong as they possibly could, this led to a big falling out with her and her partner where her partner realized that she could just fight and keep getting stronger on her own, but the lack of heart made it so Renamon lost the faith in battle as she realized there was nothing waiting for her at the end of it all.

I disagree, this series would be the one series that would benefit from having talking pokemon. For example: I think the relationship between Meowth and Team Rocket feels stronger than the relationship wish Ash and Pikachu. Why? Because when Jessie and James fight with Meowth, it feels natural, it feels like a group of equal friends arguing about differences and that splitting them up temporarily. When Ash gets into a fight with Pikachu it feels random and all I could think of is "Damn, if Pikachu could talk, he'd just tell ash what he thinks and this would be more effective." But he can't....sooo.It feels like you made your doggo angry at you and you need to make it up to him, not you made your friend angry and need to talk it out like adults.

While Tamers would outright delete a.k.a their Digimon if they stop winning as Neo did. There were other Tamers in the game that did the same.

The only trainer who abused Pokemon was Paul who was only abusive toward Chimchar for his blaze while release all the pokemon he felt weak.

Here's the deal with Pokemon and Digimon. Both parties have incredibly smart and incredibly animalistic creatures in their species. They vary, there is no definitive "All Digimon/Pokemon are smarter than all Digimon/Pokemon." its not that simple.
Digimon more often than not are shown as equals to their partners, in one way or another. It doesn't matter if they are bound by destiny or fate to meet and grow, they are equal parts in each others lives, and each have their own choices in terms of what they will and won't do. Pokemon in the universe of Pokemon are more widespread, and because of that the general treatment of MOST Pokemon is closer to that of a magical pet and their master. They are trained in the art of battle to fight against other trainers, gym leaders, and champions to prove their might. The relationship between these two+ entities is less intimate due to the fact that these creatures are treated more like super strong pets that need to be protected and contained than equal partners. It doesn't mean the bond between Pokemon & Humans is weak (Ash and Pikachu are very close for example) its just not as equal as Digimon & Human. Remember a big part of Pokemon is the mystery of these creatures, people don't fully understand them and are still trying to understand them.

The main difference is that Pokemon are part of the world from the beginning and Digimon are fancy isekai stuff leaking into the real world. Of course the relationship is going to be different. We treat animals worse than people in Pokemon world treat pokemon and Pokemon is a blanket category that includes more than just animals(kami, youkai, aliens) which is the opposite of digimon. Actually if you think about it Digimon world has normal animals in it because it's the real world so they still have real world factory farming(which pokemon supposedly doesn't have) and killing the amazon forest for McDonald's, etc. The "better bond" in Digimon is like if we became friends with AI but nothing else changed in the real world. The Pokemon world is more idealistic than the digimon one so the overall relation with Pokemon is better even if in individual aspects it seems more mundane.

Another bullshit post possibly from a Digimon fans since you seem to unaware of the anime.

First of all, not all Pokemon trained to fight. Only few trainer actually participate in gyms and league while most other trainer use pokemon for other job. Such as Mallow's Steenee that works in the cafe, Serena uses her pokemon for showcase, May & Dawn use their pokemon for Contest.

There are even Pokemon with their own goal and often allowed to get captured so they can accomplish that goal. Which is completely different than Digimon that doesn't really any purpose outside protracting their partner. Shoutamon is probably the only Digimon that actually has a goal. Most people on Pokemon anime treats their Digimon the same way Digidestined treats their Digimon without any crisis.

Yes there are other tasks and jobs Pokemon can do (As do Digimon), but primarily the world of Pokemon is centered around adults sending 10 year old kids out in the world to gather magical pets so they can train them and have them fight for advancements in their carriers. Digimon is set in the real world with regular animals and a separate digital world with Digimon, where only a select few people go to or can even interact with. That makes it so in general the core prospect of Digimon doesn't revolve around people having Digimon Battles with each other, but having Digimon Tamers/Digidestied fight against evil foes/villains of the week. That makes it so its more of a "Me and my Friends are saving the world" vs "Me and my Pokemon are gonna beat the league!" kinda deal. The relationships feel different with the worlds like this.

As seen in the current anime, most 10 year old kids actually attend school or does something completely different. They doesn't actually has to catch pokemon and go on a journey if they doesn't want to.

So far, only the protagonist and his rival are the only kids to leave home to catch and train pokemon. You can even run into various other trainer who has completely different goal.Even the protagonist can do something different outside just challenging gym

Have you ever played a pokemon game before? The core aspect of Pokemon is exploring an completely new region to find and catch new pokemon.

Because its useful to carry around Pokemon you otherwise wouldn't physically be able to if something happens to them which is shown as early as EP107 when Snorlax's ball got damaged and they spent the whole episode getting moving Snorlax around to the center because he sleeps all the time. The anime is trying to be more self contained.
The only way it would work is by turning Pokemon anime into a "lighthearted Gintama" that has a lot of fun episode with serious arc at the middle.

However it will require more than just Ash, Goh and three boring professors. The anime will need to introduce more supporting gag character from Vermilion city that acts as plot device for funny episode like Team Rocket trio.

Yeah, in earlier season they did that all the time. I say by the point Ash reached Hoenn the adaptation started to get 1:1 and by Best Wishes they'd just ripping off anything from the games without worrying if it contradicts with existing stuff.
