A Gender yes, a sex maybe? It might be flexible? Like a Legendary can lay eggs, but they decide what sex they are at that time. PMD confirms that all pokemon have Genders, even legendaries. We just don't know how pokemon eggs work yet.

I get that Pokemon uses it interchangeably, but in reality those are different things. Again, if PMD is to be trusted, all legendaries have a gender they identify with, weather or not they have a biological sex, we've yet to see. OP is the closet we've got and even then we don't know where that Lugia baby came from or how it was born, the researchers in the universe don't even know where eggs come from...

This is really stupid that the Pokemon writers can't just come out and confirm how this works yet. I'd accept if they were just having sex and eggs just come out really quickly, I don't think that's too much of a thing to show to kids or at least hint at. If thats too much, make a Legendary Pokemon Fertility God/Goddess/Entity thing that just materializes eggs for pokemon couples when "The Time is Right".

How do you know that?? Its canon that not a single person has ever seen a pokemon either have sex or lay an egg. I know that's hard to believe I think its dumb too, but its currently unknown where these come from or how they reproduce so quickly.

And yes, we don't NEED it confirmed, but it would at least get basic world building out the way.

Genderless Pokemon are officially called "gender unknown" meaning they may still have a gender/sex, there's just no way for people to identify it.

Lore on many legendary or mythical Pokemon rarely implies they're truly unique entities, aside from cover legendaries where it's instead implied they might be more unique most of the time. The anime had a fucking weird take on Lugia though, it tries to have it both ways between the movie and the show.
