Does anyone else think the gen 5 sprites and just the aesthetic overall looks really ugly?

BW2 kinda fixed it a bit with that town based on Mexico, but the original game seemed filled with places that just looked sterile and lame or just ugly in my opinion.

Also you think when it originally came out people didn't hate the mons but rather the way they looked in gen 5?
I know that was the case for me with a few gen 5 mons.

It's a bit of a mixed bag. The character sprites in the overworld, I actually thought were the best in the series in BW. However I understand what you mean with the areas being bland, and I feel like the overworlds have kind of a crusty look to them, compared to Gen 4 where everything looks pretty clean for the most part.

I don't even hate Gen 8 that much, the games are a mess visually.
At least Gen 7 had a distinct style even if everything looks like it's made of styrofoam and cardboard

And you see this shit in literally every city on earth so of course unova looks generic because it is.

Now places in unova that actually are memorable like the village bridge are based on places that actually look interesting in Europe and Japan.

Anyone who isn't a retard thinks this. But /vp/'s userbase is full of 16-18 year-olds who played gen 4 or 5 as their first game and have rose tinted zoomer goggles for it.

I remember reading that in the anime they based an area on some random train tracks that are in new york.
That tells you all you need to know about how interesting visually new york is.

Yes. Gen 5 was disgusting visually. It was full of retarded sprites that scale and stretch instead of bothering with actual animation, shitty inconsistent colors, and somehow worse looking environments than Gen 4. The only good part of that gen was the Pokémon themselves.

As for elgym yes that's obviously what it's based on, dont know what that has to do with new york though.

And for braviary, it's more like the Japanese ignorance bird.
Why is it native american themed but in the colors (if you ignore yellow)of the shithole country that genocided them?
I'd say it was meant to be a criticism of America stealing native cultures and painting them that ugly pallet so they can pretend these native cultures were somehow created by colonists.

But the pre-evo is colored like that too, so gf just didn't think about it.
Just put in generic bald eagle the end America has no culture so here's a really lame bird.
