Typhlosion is bipedal 99% of the time. That particular design is kind of bland, I'll give you that, but that doesn't mean that the concept couldn't possibly be executed in a way that makes a great starter.

Funny how Typhlosion gets utterly ignored, yet people cry over Incineroar not being quadrupedal. It's almost as if there's a correlation between starter sales performances and the ability to stand upright or something

Nah it's because typhlosion is bland as fuck. More bland than that quadrupedal Incineroar fanart.
It gains no additional features compared compared to quilava. Quilava is already a pretty featureless pokemon design wise, which is alright for a middle stage
Of course typhlosion would be mostly ignored compared to other starters.

Themes are good when they're done right like Empoleon and Poseidon, Infernape and Sun Wukong and Torterra and the World Turtle. Themes like anthro animal + job are trash.
