But I'm curious if the cutscene doesn't play at all (since you don't have a starter) or if it defaults to showing the starter that your choice replaced.
One weird thing I noticed in BW2 is that if you edit the starters (so Snivy to Duskull for instance is what I had), some of the early NPCs that talk about your starter will say Snivy, and others would actually say Duskull. It's weird how not all of them are coded the same.
