As much as I love Escavalier, I'm not a fan of its unexplained ability to fly. I get that with its design, there's no other way it could move, but considering that it's a beetle, they could have at least given it wings.

I was going to mention magnetism(which justifes pokemon like Steelix floating in the games), but it doesn't even get Magnet Rise or Levitate for that. I'm convinced it was an afterthought

Steelix never floated and learning Magnet Rise doesn't justify it either since just about every Electric or Steel type Pokemon can learn it

Its the same as with Garchomp.
Apparently it can just fly with no explanation from its dex, any npc, or even its design. There's no mention of using heat or magnetism or moving air currents, or hell, the use of "dragon energy"!

Some Pokemon, including all psychic Pokemon apparently according to their run animations, can just fly and float.

Maybe its "psychic energy" because it is true that all humans can use psychic powers according to the class type and Avery.

It's not actually floating. It's just presented that way because it's easier to animate.

Nothing in the Pokedex says it can float, nor does any of its concept art. If Steelix was intended to float, it would do that in the anime, but it doesn't, it actually slithers around like it was intended to. If it could, the animators wouldn't even have to bother animating it, they could just have it float all the time to save time.

Garchomp is particularly annoying since the whole idea behind it's evolution line is that it's a land shark, the flying element just comes the fuck out of nowhere. Like, one of the staff noticed that if it tucks it's arms in and lies flat it very, very vaguely looks like a plane and they just rolled with it because why the fuck not.

Geodude does not float in the games, it's just like that for the same reason fish Pokemon are.

Geodude floating only occasionally happened in the anime in the past, but they fixed that error pretty quickly.
