A remake doesn't "ruin" an old game, but a remake should be good enough to not make you want to play the original one, for example there is no reason to play RB because FRLG are better in every sense, unless of course you like to hunt for glitches, meanwhile LGPE removed so much stuff that some people would rather play FRLG.
HGSS are way superior to GSC and there is no reason to play them, aside from glitches.
ORAS make RS obsolete but can't replace Emerald amd that is what makes them bad remakes
