Do you think the next gen of Pokemon will be huge improvement over the current one? I mean, the backlash they got for SWish was pretty bad.

Nope. It's 2020 the consumers are always wrong for wanting anything batter in their product. And for what it's worth unlike Lucasflim or Naughty Dog, Gamefreak didn't actively insult and spit in the fans faces during the backlash.

Honestly, we should give it a couple gens before we attempt to speculate whether the franchise is going up or down, rather than try to do it constantly. Not enough change happens per generation, but you can judge the direction better over time.

This most recent generation pissed a lot of people off, but it sold very well. We have no way of being sure what will happen when the next one comes around.

The next games are going to be in the vein of the last games and the ones before them and the ones before then and so on. No-one, chief amongst them GF staffers, actually give a shit for making Pokémon for adults. The best you can hope for is they include enough elements that also apply to an adult's gameplay experience as to a child's, because as they see it, it's a kid's game that adults play, not the other way around.

The sales were only topped by literal pokemania so they have no financial incentive to really care about the quality of the franchise in the long-term.

Though if a new Gen does come out on the switch 2-3 years from now then yeah, it'll probably be TECHNICALLY an improvement over SWSH because it will be mostly SWSH with a few additions.

But something big that makes up for SWSH? Probably not for a while.

The Isle of Armor already showed off improvements, Gen 9 probably won't be a massive difference, but it will definitely have some of the rough edges of the new concepts sanded off.
