>>44718889It has about an average amount of likable Pokemon for a generation, but dramatically more filler. A lot of its filler is also aesthetically poor to many people, especially with stuff like the monkeys. It also added a ridiculous amount of legendaries with stuff like the genies basically being copy-pasted from each other.
Another thing is that in the original black and white, you could literally only catch gen v Pokemon while playing through it. This really highlighted the fact that a lot of lines are essentially "different takes" on Kanto lines:
Liepard : Persian
Musharna : Hypno
Gigalith : Golem
Swoobat : Golbat
Excadrill : Dugtrio
Conkeldurr : Machamp
Seismitoad : Poliwrath
Garbodor : Muk or Weezing
Jellicent : Tentacruel
Bouffalant : Tauros
Sawk & Throh : the Hitmons
Not all of these were universally loathed or pretty boring copy-pasted typings, but a lot drew very heavily from Kanto Pokemon in inspiration and/or role. That bugged a lot of people who would rather just play through with Kanto Pokemon.
Also, personally, I think Gen V had the worst starters, regional rodent and regional bird.
