That's funny, I have the opposite perspective. It looks worse to me in fanart because I've seen a lot of people draw it with a snout like some snarling bear or wolf when it's more like a giant rodent.

I do. I like how it forms its spiky shield and I'm glad the 4-5(depending on how you treat Bulbasaur) gen streak of grass types being reptiles was broken.

There's two many other mammal starters for this to be a trio; there's only 3 birds, so that works, and 3 lizards, so that works, but "mammal trio" is too broad. How about "ugly mammal trio"?

I used to dislike this thing but I've come to realize it's because I just don't like its coloring. The Shiny gives it the nice color scheme that it had as a Chespin & Quilladin and it makes me actually kinda like the thing.

I like it a lot and it is definitely the best fully evolved starter in gen VI, Strong contender for best fully evolved starter from gen V-VIII as a whole too.
I would have liked some more musculature on the arms instead of them being tubes, but otherwise it’s great.
