Why does /vp/ spend more time complaining about generations of Pokemon they don't like than discussing things about the series that they actually do like?

Because whenever someone starts a thread trying to talk positive about something they like it gets flood with people derailing it by calling the topic "shit/garbage/cancer/etc" and screaming boomers and zoomers, because tearing other people down is more fun than sharing something they enjoy.

All the things I like about Pokemon get cut from the next game, down to the Pokemon themselves.

Cool! I love how there's so much variety - the pokemon themselves, the regions, the battle strategies - it's got something for everyone and there's always more you can do with it if you get bored of your current team or the version you're playing or whatever.
