>>44721563The thing about animation comparisions between 2d and 3d is that you can get away with way more stuff when you animate in 2d rather than 3d. What i'm trying to say is that its very similar to the uncanny valley effect in robotic design, where the more realistic something looks, the more realistic it has to behave, and in turn the more errors are going to be noticed. A 2d sprite jumping up and down in front of a white background is far less jarring than a fully modeled, realistic looking pokemon in a fully modeled enviroment jumping up and down. Thats also why discussions about realistic size of pokemon are now showing up, when thats never really been an issue before. 2d sprite battles are just abstractions, and its far easier to take them as such because its easier for our brains to just fill in the blanks, while 3d animations need more detail, since its harder to just take them as abstractions.
So no, saying, "see in the 2d games they didn't need more detailed animations" is not a good argument. More detail means more attention to detail and more responsibility.
