I just want there to be approx 151 Pokemon. Having 800+ has ruined the world for me. There being a possibly hidden unknown, new Pokemon hiding behind a truck near the SS Anne was such an amazing feeling. But now who cares?

Can any oldfags relate to this?

No. We always knew there were more out there. Ho-oh was in the first episode of the show. Hell there were even 191 planned for the original games if memory serves. A Pokémon Master should be excited at the prospect of new things to catch and train. (Even if some of those things are pretty shitty)

No, that's my point. We knew there were more but we weren't entirely sure. Like, Ash saw that Ho-Oh but the Pokedex couldn't recognize it. That made the world of Pokemon so mysterious and cool to me.

This is a feeling that will never be achieved in this day and age with a franchise as big as this. While it's a feeling that makes sense to long for, it's foolish to think that the feeling of the original games could ever be felt again. Games as popular as this can be datamined within days of being released. Even if the whole series rebooted back to Gen 1, that charm will never come back. It's very much a product of its time.

I kinda understand what you mean but you're kinda a fag about it. during the first few gens a lot of new pokemon felt truly new and original because there wasn't too many of them but these days I genuinely think they're running out of ideas.

Black/White tried that and it was fucking boring because it reminded you that you'll just be seeing the same ~5 pokemon in every single fight like every grunt in a criminal team having the exact same pokemon forever. It completely ruins variety and makes every fight boring.

B/W could have been better if the pokemon were unique instead of just being replacements or re-imaginings of the originals.

Newfags will never, ever know how it felt between gens 1 and 2 as new designs leaked out before G/S released. As a kid, this was huge. I was just thinking the other day how genius the marketing for Togepi was. I remember lots of "that kid" stories about how to get Togepi in Yellow.

That said, the series has just taken its natural course. There would be no way to maintain the feeling you're talking about without stagnation.

I'm a fan of gens 1 - 3. For me, those three have the best story, gameplay, aesthetic, art style, and Pokemon designs. After that, the art style started to change. Pokemon's art style and the way they designed Pokemon in gens 1 - 3 was its identity, so changing it makes it lose its identity and uniqueness. Gen 4 is meh, some designs are pretty good but gen 5 is where the art style completely changed.

Now that James Turner has polluted the franchise and they changed the way they design Pokemon and they changed the art style, the series will never be good again.

as someone who has started since blue I don't really wanna go back, especially since some of my Favorite mons came in around gens 5 and 6. my problem has always been that they keep fagging up the world building by trying to keep this illusion of Mystery by not making a proper world map, or Making pokemon like fucking Yungoose that "originate in MYSTERY region" that they prob won't reveal for 25 years later. another problem I have is with the abuse and over use of Legendaries and mythicals in both their over abundance and by how easy it is to obtain when I would rather go back to RSE and having to crack open caves to find a regi or go through those Tunnel Mazes to catch one of the legendary birds back in RBY. frankly a generation where they stop making shitty gimmicky legends and focus on shit like tying up incomplete Pokemon lines, adding regional forms for pre-existing regions, and otherwise just cleaning up and doing some major Ecology fluff would be a welcome change in my eyes and would add more substance to the bloated dex of paper thin creatures that feel more like stickers then actual living things existing in an ecosystem.

No, you don't dislike how there's 800 Pokemon, you dislike the Internet has made the flow of information so much easier, to where there's very little ambiguity or mystery to be had left in the series.
Which is understandable but....no? Started with gen 1 and I think I much prefer how things are now. It's a solid RPG series, stop trying to turn it into something mystical and ethereal.
