I always found it baffling that Morty's gym used entirely Gastly line Pokemon despite Misdreavus existing. I know they wanted to keep some new mons more hidden, but Misdreavus was a really bad choice to do this for. It's not even available until Mt Silver in the originals anyway so the mystery doesn't even matter since you can't get it for the whole game anyway.
The remakes made Misdreavus available earlier but you still don't fight one in Morty's gym, yet they changed one of Clair's Dragonair for a Gyarados. It's so arbitrary.
