If I want to experience Kanto I would much rather just replay red/blue, not some tacked-on dumbed down version of it, truly a shadow of its former self.
Revisiting a place you're emotionally attached to should give you the feel of understanding how much YOU have changed, not how much worse the place got.
Its like revisiting your childhood town and instead of seeing it under a new light through a broadened mature perspective, you're just bummed out most of the population has left and all your favorite shops have been shut down.

You dont get to shrink and remove content and pass it off as meaningful environmental evolution(more like devolution in this case).

Kanto is severely gimped because they rushed it and due to hardware limitations, nothing more.

There's being delusional and then there's just trying too fucking hard to fit in with the edgy kids who insist on hating things. Gen 2 isn't supposed to be like a standalone entry in a franchise that goes on for decades, it's a sequel to the first Pokemon games.

it didnt actually explode in size, the game graphics are just a symbolic representation, you're not supposed to actually believe a city only has a dozen buildings, version on the right is just an example of a more fleshed out representation with better art direction. both celadon and saffron are based on Tokyo and the picture on the right does a better job at conveying that.

What the hell is the point of changing a place that drastically though? The value in going back to Kanto in the sequel is to see FAMILIAR places and what may be different about them. No one cares if Celadon looks like Tokyo, but people care of Celadon looks like itself.

I have memory issues and don't remember 90% of old games and shows that I watched

I didn't pick up the map card initially since I didn't talk to every npc because I was an ADHD-riddled shitter back then, so him telling me to check my map because I was in Kanto literally meant nothing. It wasn't until a day or two later when someone told me how to get the map and I saw that it was the region from RBY that I got excited about the prospect of revisiting these maps.
