Shell Smash got Mega Blastoise banned from NatDex OU, though. The combination of Smash + Mega clearly works, even when it has to compete with other Megas for a spot on a team.

The only good shell smasher is cloyster and even then it's this meme-y set with king's rock and skill link. All others are bad.

Blastoise stats are bad for a sweeper, that's why it would only be good if megas still existed, the extra offensive stats and better ability really make him go a long way.

The problem with blastoise is how low its special stat is
It has 80 attack and will never use a physical move. Same with feraligatr, it has a pathetic attack of 105 and high special.
They realized how dumb this shit was and minmaxed swampert in gen 3.

In all seriousness, Physical Shell Smash is not much worse than Special on Blastoise. Liquidation, Earthquake, Rock Slide/Ice Punch can get the job done about as well as Scald, Aura Sphere, and Ice Beam.

I'm pretty sure when turtlemons use shell smash, they're aggressively shedding scutes, which doesn't remove the entire shell and therefore their spine, but makes their shell thinner and more vulnerable, but also lighter.
