The series no longer has an artistic identity, because they have decided to change the art style, so that's why people say the new Pokemon "don't look like Pokemon", and it's because they really don't.

Sirfetch'd is an okay design, but the only reason he's decent looking is because he's based on a gen 1 Pokemon, Farfetch'd, a Pokemon that came from the base, defining generation which defined what a Pokemon SHOULD look like, and what the art style should be.
