Yeah, nah. They tried something, due to the regional inspirations and when it failed as their audience didn't care about it, they realised they had to keep kids invested while playing the game. Hence why they doubled-down on the kiddy-pandering.

A simple fix to this is to give the online battling portion of the game a completely customizable protagonist with preset body/age types. That way they can have the story be aimed for youngsters and let older players have access to customization that’s closer to their own self.
