I already stated that I was a kindergartner and barely literate, how am I supposed to know about a glitch that was made popular by the internet much later on? So, the answer is no. At least not during my first round of playing.
A few years later, my parents finally installed a modem in my house so I finally had access to the internet but by then I already in the middle of playing Crystal. I found out about the Mew glitch first and that was the one that lead me to replay Red. I was unable to make Mew appear but I did tried the item glitch and managed to make MissingNo.s to appear in Cinnabar. I just have to trigger the capture tutorial in Viridian, interrupt the tutorial, fly to Cinnabar, and the Surf along the east coast of the island. Then, the proto-Stakatakas will appear, which defeating them will increase whatever item you got on the first slot in your Bag according to the MissingNo.'s ID number.
